Mom's Are Essential!

It’s been quite some time since I’ve been able to sit down and put a blog together. I think I started and stopped about six different times. Let’s face it, a lot has changed in the last few weeks. One thing that that hasn’t changed is that Moms are working OVERTIME for their families!

Being a Mom myself, I felt it was important to point out that Mother’s Day is coming quickly and we all deserve a little extra pick me up this year! Sanity and silence are at the top of my Mother’s Day requests this year, but we all know that these two things are next to impossible! So instead I’m going to give you a list of my top 5 realistic picks!

Control What We Can

The last few days have been as crazy as it gets and many of us are stuck at home riding out the madness. Right now, there is so much that is out of our control, so lets find things to focus on that we DO have control of. For me, it’s been organizing at home, particularly my closet. It’s the time of year where it tends to be overflowing with dark colored clothes and heavy sweaters. Most days the weather is damp and gray so why the heck should my closet be!? I want to be inspired when I get dressed in the morning, so I decided it was time to spruce up this space!

Lighten it up – I don’t live in LaLa Land (most of the time) I do realize that we live in a place where there can potentially be snow in April! However, I am so sick of seeing sweaters take up my entire closet! PACK THEM AWAY! I know its still chilly but this is where layers come into play! Keep the lighter weight sweaters, cardigans and blouses and pack away the heavy sweaters and turtle necks!

Brighten it up – Make your closet bright again! Nothing puts you in a good mood in the morning like putting on a bright colored top! Look through your closet and collect all of the boring grays and faded blacks. Put them away for next year or at least push them to the back of the closet! Make sure that the first thing you see is something exciting!

Freshen it up- I used to hold on to clothing way past it’s prime. Now, each season I go through my closet and either donate or toss the things that need to go. When choosing what to get rid of I always ask myself two main questions. Will I remember this once it’s gone? If the answer is no, its time to let go of it. Does it look worn? We all have pieces in our closet that are meant to be worn for one season. If the color is faded or it’s not really looking fresh, let it go!

Everyone is going to be practicing “Social Distancing” so why not make it worth your while. Freshen your closet and get it ready for Spring. Why not be ready when its time to go out and mingle again! Don’t forget, if you’re in the mood to shop and don’t want to leave home, give us call! We would love to Bring the Style Van to you!

6 Ways To Rock Your Denim Jacket

Ok, so you dusted off your denim jacket last week…. now what!? I emphasized how important it was to have a jean jacket in your closet but now I want to show you how to rock it! A denim jacket is one item in your closet that I insist you splurge on. The biggest reason to invest in a high quality jacket is because you will wear it a million times! The outfit options are endless. Here are a few different ways that you can wear your favorite denim jacket!

1.  Style it with a statement pant

2.  Add it over a dress to dial down the formal

3. Wear it with a graphic tee on a casual day

4. Pop it over a sundress on a cool day

5. Use it to break up the look of a romper

6. Pair it with a skort or skirt

Spring Closet Staple!

I woke up a few days ago and to my delight, I heard a bird chirping! Now, I know I’m a bit premature since technically it’s still February, but I took this as a sign that spring is coming. I immediately wanted to throw all of my winter sweaters in a bin and start planning some cute spring outfits. I decided to make a compromise with myself and start by dusting off my jean jacket! A denim jacket is an absolute staple piece for every single woman (and man’s) closet!

For me, one of the biggest bonuses to splurging on a great jean jacket is the fact that you can wear it almost all year long! A denim jacket can be added to virtually every outfit to complete your look! You can even get away with adding it to a dress and making it “business casual”. Finding the RIGHT jacket is the key to looking great. I prefer it to have a little stretch and hit right at my waistline, but the style options are endless! This
year Bev & Co. has so many different wash options, different color options and even different levels of distress. Time to dig out that denim jacket or come get a fresh one! So pick your poison and rock it from March to November!

Step Outside Your Comfort Zone

How many times do you change your clothes in the morning just to fall back on that same old boring outfit that makes you feel safe and comfortable!?  I’m guessing, too many times! When I met my mother-in-law and sister-in-law 14 years ago, I was so stubborn about my supposed “style”. My entire goal was to blend into the crowd. Then …I gave up some control and I let them dress me. I trusted them when they said an outfit looked good. Low and behold I started getting compliments on my clothing. I realized that when I looked boring, I felt boring.

Its ok to stand out, in fact, it’s amazing to stand out. We have so many comfort zones that are really hard to step out of, make this the easy one! You don’t have to go straight to a sequin romper! Try adding little pieces to your wardrobe that are out of the norm. Go with pink instead of gray, try out a boyfriend jean, or just add a fun necklace! Trust me, I’m still obsessed with a fabulous gray sweater and jeans but a cheetah belt never hurt anyone!

Date Night Outfit Ideas!

Its Valentines week and who doesn’t like to look fabulous for their better half!? Even if a fancy dinner isn’t in the cards this year, here are three outfit ideas for three different types of date nights!

A Fancy Romantic Dinner:

As of late, fashion has taken a turn toward, all casual all the time. While I generally embrace this idea, who doesn’t love to go all out!? There is never a better time than a Valentine’s Day dinner to wear a cocktail dress! This hot pink dress is absolutely perfect for this occasion! Add a fabulous earring and grab your cutest clutch and you’re ready to go!

A Casual Night Out:

If a fancy dinner is not an option this year, then casual is the way to go. This Valentine’s Day outfit is perfect if you are opting for something low key like dinner and a movie. You can go for a more casual version by adding jeans instead of the black pant. The ruffle and bright red color of this poncho adds a flirty feminine feel to this outfit. Dress it down with a flat shoe or dress it up a pump!

A Low-key Family Night:

So maybe you’re like me and won’t be making it out this year. Or, if you are going somewhere, it’s with your kids as a family. These are actually my favorite types of Valentine’s Day dates! This outfit is perfect for a family night out! This pink tunic sweatshirt can be paired with your favorite pair of jeans or even leggings! Throw this easy piece on and your good to go!

Whether its Valentine’s Day or everyday, dressing for yourself is what is important! If your plans don’t include a significant other, grab your girlfriends and celebrate YOU! Regardless of who your with or where you are, you’ll look fabulous!!

Getting Dressed Quickly!

Let’s face it, we are ALL busy and even 10 minutes can cost us our entire morning, so here is one easy way to plan your outfit in a time crunch! Having the right pieces in your closet is important but knowing how to pair them is essential.

Step one, start with your feet! If your dogs are barking, your day is ruined! So, in other words, If I am running errands all day, I usually skip the stilettos. If you’re a fan of bold shoes, planning your outfit around them is the way to go. Otherwise, this time of year, opting for a neutral bootie is always a safe and stylish option! Once you’ve decided on the perfect pair for the day, work your way up! Which pants or skirt in your closet will go best with your fabulous shoe. Will you wear a belt?! Does your belt match your shoes?! It seems like lots of questions to ask yourself but in a matter of 3 minutes, you’re dressed from the waist down.

Step three, choose a top from your collection that pairs well. Make sure that the blouse, sweater or jacket you’ve chosen coordinates with your shoes! If your running late, it’s always safe to stick with the classics! Bev & Co. always carries the quality basics! The integrity of the product is so important to us because you need to be able to wash and wear again and again without looking worn! A quality white blouse can be both flattering and easy. Lastly, choose your accessories! Add a fun vest, toss on a bold scarf, or pop on a great necklace. This morning routine has saved me on a million occasions! Go ahead and give it a try, looking good won’t make or break your day but it’s a great start!

First Impressions

Did you know that studies show that first impressions are more important than facts?! WHAT you wear tells the world WHO you are. So… who are you!? Do you wake up in the morning and slip on your classiest dress, do you roll out of bed and slide into your favorite yoga pants, or are you a jeans and tee shirt kind of person?! If you’re anything like me, this changes on a daily basis! Mondays and Thursdays, I am a low-key stay-at-home mom who lives for stylish comfort. The other days of the week, I am put together in whatever my fashion muse of the season may be. While I can’t control peoples first impressions, I CAN influence them!

Contrary to what some people think, you don’t have to be wearing a ball gown to give off a great first impression (although that would be QUITE the impression at school drop off). Looking put together really does take minimal effort! Throw out your flannel pajama pants, or at least reserve them for inside the house. If it has a stain…. it has got to go. You have the power to influence peoples first impressions and most importantly, to influence your own! That old cliché about looking good and feeling good… it’s TRUE! (wink wink)
